Short Description:
I'm discussing DoomCaliber Knight today because I'm debating whether maining this over Thunder King.
While TK puts searching and inherit summons in check he still can't get over summoning via effects.
Whilst Doomcaliber Knight can stop monster effects like Gorz/Fader/REDMD/Snowman etc.

Pros:
Deals with Gorz/Fader with ease (Any effect monster).
He's a 1900 beater
He gets under Skill Drain.
He can 1 for 1 Rykos/Snowmen Eaters
He's an additional Dark monster.

Cons:
He can't negate inherit summons(Grandmaster of the Six Samurai,CyDra etc)
He negates ANY effect monster including your own
He can't be special summoned(Which is somehow good since your opponent can't Leviair it or Reborn it)

What kind of deck?
Doom is awesome but unfortenely he is easer to deal with then thunder king mainly cuz his eff is mandotory.
Doom is a nice surpise. I use him i gusto deck as a suprise beater.

Doom plus thunder could be a bitch, but if you use Thunder King's effect to negate a special summon, you'll feel it as Doom will cancel it and you'll loose 2 beatdowns... That's why people use either Doom or Thunder, one of them is enough to stop an advance from my point.

I'm not saying to have both on the field I'm just saying what do you main against today's meta actually.
Doom's great against Inzectors even though they can bait.
Thunder King's great against Wind-Ups not really against Dino-Rabbit.
Doom's not so good against Wind-Ups and he's iffy against Dino-Rabbit.
Doom's dead against Heroes
TK's alright against them.
And so on.

I still stand with my orginal question.
Which one you want to main more hinges on what deck you play.
This is mainly cuz Doom isn't optional. If doom can make you have to play different to avoid him clashing into yourself then I wouldn't main him, reguardless of the meta. But if doom can fit into a deck he is worth considering.
TK seems to be able to fit into any deck. and has 2 cool effects and both are optional. He also can be call of the haunted.
So TK seems better to me.
But it still depends on what deck you play.

Me personally though I never use thunder king, I use doom cal.
